MEDays 2011, numerous high level personnalities and experts confirmed their participation
The Amadeus Institute is announcing the participation of numerous international personalities in the fourth edition of the MEDays Forum, “The South in Global Governance “ taking place from the 16th to 19th November in Tangier.
Six weeks before the MEDays Forum 2011 more than 130 personalities of the political and economic sector from 5 continents confirmed their participation.
More than 85 countries from the South and the North will be represented by this high level community of speakers. At this the level of quality as well as the prominence of the expected delegates increases continuously .
This year, the MEDays Forums subject 2011 “The South and Global Governance“will bring to light diversified international and regional issues, animating a vast and profound reflection.
The major communicated and reflected subjects between the « 3A »’s countries (Latin America, Africa and Asia) will be again transferring knowledge and the development of North/ South cooperation.
Aware of the importance of inserting the southern countries in the global climate negociations as well as in energetic and agrarian questions, Amadeus Institute will dedicate the beginning of the program to this subject, in particular with the participation of Richard Jones, Deputy Executive Director, of the International Energy Agency, Teodor Baconski, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania, Eric Besson, French Minister of Industry, Energy and the Digital Economy, Abdoulie Janneh, United Nations Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), Sally Kosgei, Minister of Agriculture of Kenya, and also Henri Derwent, President and CEO of the International Emissions Trading Association (IETA).
The current international matters regarding the Democratization in the Mediterranean South area will be discussed both in terms of political and economic issues.
From there the crucial question of the transitions’ financing will be discussed by important donors such as Jan Fisher, Mediterranean Vice President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and Alyoisus Uche Ordu, Vice President in charge of the regional countries and programs of the African Development Bank.
In addition Tunisian and Jordanian finance ministers, Jaloul Ayed and Mohammad Abu Ammour as well as Youssef Amrani, UFM’s Secretary-General , and Bernardino Léon, Special Representative of the European Union for the Southern Mediterranean area , will be involved in these discussions.
The debates about the democratization and the consolidation of the constitutional state in southern countries will also be enriched by high African personalities such as Raila Odinga, Prime Minister of Kenya, Morgan Tsvangirai, his Zimbabwean homologue, Joyce Banda, Vice President of Malawi and Marou Amadou, Justice Minister of Niger.
The focus « The Arab Spring » will be the editions’ highlight of this year. The MEDays Forum 2011 will consecrate a special plenary for the current changes in the Arabic world.
This prominent session will implicate the following participants : Nabil Al Arabi, Secretary-General of the Arab League, Shekih Khaled Ibn Ahmed Al Khalifa, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Bahrain, Mikhail Marguelov, special deputy of the russian presidency for the Southern Mediterranean and Middle East affairs, Saeb Erekat, executive member of the PLO, Ahmet DavutoÄźlu, Turkish Minister For Foreign Affairs and also high representatives of the National Transitional Council of Libya (NTC).
Subjects as conflict management, the Horn of Africa, Afghanistan, the Sahel-Saharan states, and the Fragile States will be picked out as central themes within this panels discussion about international security.
Amongst the ten ministers for foreign affairs from all continents, following high level governmental representatives will be included : Angel Pastrana, former president of Colombia, General Ihsan Ul Haq, member of the General Staff of the Pakistani Armed Forces, Sven Alkalaj, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia, Milan Rocen, Montenegrin minister of Foreign Affairs, Marc Perrin de Brichambaut, former Secretary General of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).
Furthermore, intergovernmental, multilateral and regional organizations will be represented for example by: Cheick Sidi Diarra, Secretary General deputy of the United Nations, special representative for Africa, Levent Bilman, Director of the United Nations’ department of political affairs, James Victor Gbeho, President of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) as well as by Sindiso Ngwenya, Secretary General of the COMESA.
Finally, respecting its transversal approach, the MEDays Forum will also examine the role of the southern emerging countries in the world economy.
Thus, Alejandro Toledo Manrique, former president of Peru, Sanusi Lamido, governor of the Central Bank of Niger, Liu Guijin, special representative of the Chinese government of African Affairs , Amadou Niang, Senegalese Minister of Commerce, Chi Jianxin, Executive Director of the China-Africa Development Fund, but also Cheick Modibo Diarra, chairman of Microsoft Africa will be present.
Within the next weeks, the Amadeus Institute is going to receive further confirmations of internationally- renowned characters, participating in the fourth edition of the MEDays Forum, “The South and Global Governance“.
